Hello! Let’s talk about how Lottie animations can take your website or app to the next level.

Recently, I had the pleasure of working with SwissBorg, a blockchain-based wealth management platform, to create an animation for their new investment product, "SwissBorg Thematics." They wanted the animation as a Lottie file, which made things interesting!

Lottie animations are fantastic because they’re lightweight, scalable, and look great on any device. However, they come with a few quirks. For example, Lottie doesn't support drop shadows.

To work around this, I added a shape under the object and applied a layer blur effect to mimic the drop shadow. It required some tweaking, but it worked perfectly.

For the SwissBorg project, I broke the animation into three layers:

  1. The first layer is the pie chart animation.

  2. The second layer: The in-between lines and rounded corners to punch through the first layer.

  3. The third layer is the coins.

This layering technique allowed the animation to be used on any background color, ensuring it was versatile and functional.

Here are some best practices for integrating Lottie animations:

  • Optimize for Performance: Keep animations lightweight to ensure fast loading times.

  • Test on Multiple Devices: Ensure your animations look great on all screen sizes.

  • Consider Compatibility: Be aware of Lottie’s limitations and plan workarounds in advance.

Using Lottie animations can significantly enhance user experience on your website or app. They bring your designs to life with smooth, high-quality animations that work seamlessly across platforms. So, dive in, experiment, and watch your creations come alive!
